Our Areas Of Expertise

Plastering

Plastering involves walls and ceilings being filled and smoothed with plaster by a professional. An essential service to be carried out if you are planning on painting and/or decorating your home and want the surfaces in perfect condition.

Restoration

It is the method of bringing one thing back to its original condition. consider a historiographer restoring a building.

Internal plastering which can be a simple re-skim of a room that has a solid background on which to plaster on. This is when we are applying finish plaster to your wall leaving it ready for you to paint.
We also use tradition processes should your property be bare brick and needs the full works. This can vary depending on your requirements and whether the property is a listed building or not. Encompassed in this is the use of backing plasters such as bonding coat, hardwall, browning (rare to find this product these days) and sand and cement internal render. In addition to this we also use lime plaster products which is mostly for the older or grade listed properties.

Lime plaster, or renovating plaster products are also advised to use where damp has been an issue as the lime helps the wall breath unlike modern plaster products. Don’t worry, we can advise on which process is best for you at the time of quoting. Again, this is generally the product used for very old properties as the concept of wall cavities was only invented in the early 19th century and became widespread in most construction by the 1920s.

Drylining is another option that is very popular in more modern properties. This is the process of using plasterboard, whether it be:

Standard plasterboards (white boards) These are generally used for the majority of walls and ceilings alike. These can be plastered once in place with board finish plaster or multi-finish plaster.

Fire retardant boards (red boards) This type of plasterboard is used a great deal on commercial properties where building regulations must be complied with for health & safety reasons. However, they are also used over support steels in domestic properties, and on request, used for ceilings and rooms with a higher risk of fire such as kitchens, albeit they do not prevent fire, they just slow it down more than a standard white board would do.

Sound-reducing boards to help cut down on noise pollution from neighbouring properties. However, this should not be confused with soundproofing, is merely reduces external noise but doesn’t totally eliminate it.

Moisture-resistant boards for use around wet rooms, baths and showers, etc. Again, we can advise you on the best products to use for your project so you are fully educated on the benefits before work commences.

Damp proofing – This usually affects older prewar properties due to age-related issues with the pointing and/or rendering of the external walls, roof issues, guttering, and rising damp to name a few common causes of damp. Again, we can advise on the best products and methods to tackle the problem. We offer a 10-year guarantee with all of our damp proofing work so you have peace of mind that can be passed on to the new owner should you ever sell the property. There are a number of methods we use depending on your requirements which include:

Damp-proofing cream can be used in all types of masonry without the use of high-pressure injection equipment. It is therefore easy to install and highly effective at treating rising damp. The DPC cream has a special consistency that allows for the active ingredients to optimally penetrate the wall.

Damp proof membrane
(DPM) is a type of membrane material is used to prevent dampness from occurring through capillary action that is attached to the bare brick prior to plastering.

Tanking – Wall tanking or “tanking slurry” is a method of preventing water ingress by creating a completely impermeable waterproof barrier on an internal wall. When we refer to tanking walls, it’s usually in reference to below-ground structures like basements or as a precautionary measure on damp walls above ground.

External rendering –

Rendering refers to the process of applying a coat of cement on the external walls of a property to make them smooth or textured as desired. The difference between rendering and plastering is that rendering involves the exterior walls while plastering involves the interior ones. Monocouche which is dry powdered render which has a coloured pigment and provides reasonable breathability. It’s generally a very popular rendering system and there are a wide variety of monocouche renders available on the market such as Weber, Parex and K-Rend.
